To hunt doves and other migratory birds in Iowa, hunters must be registered with the federal Harvest Information Program (HIP). Hunters register with HIP when they pay the Iowa Migratory Game Bird Fee.
Dove hunters are not required to pay the Iowa Migratory Game Bird Fee, but they are still required to register with HIP to legally hunt doves. For information about registering with HIP to hunt doves, go to the Iowa DNR site.
You are not are not required to register with HIP if you are:
- A landowner hunting on your own land or…
- A hunter 16 years of age or younger who does not need a license to hunt.
