Course Outline

According to TCA §39-17-1351, you cannot get a Handgun Carry Permit if you do not meet the eligibility requirements. For example, you would not be eligible to get the permit if you:

  • Have been convicted of a felony.
  • Have been convicted of a qualifying misdemeanor for:
    • Driving under the influence within the time periods specified in §39-17-1351 or…
    • Committing a crime of domestic violence or…
    • Stalking.
  • Are subject to a protective order.
  • Are a fugitive from justice.
  • Are an unlawful user of, or addicted to, alcohol, a controlled substance, or a controlled substance analogue.
  • Are an alien and are in the United States illegally or unlawfully.
  • Do not meet any of the other eligibility requirements listed in §39-17-1351.
